After asking yourself,
‘What makes me come alive?’ there is another question. What are you doing about it? It is easy to tell ourselves, ‘one day.’ When work settles down. When the children are older. When I have more time. When life becomes easier. But life has a way of filling every empty space. If you don’t make room for what brings you alive, something else will happily take its place. You don’t need to change your entire life overnight. You only need to begin. Read the book. Take the walk. Pick up the paintbrush. Sit by the ocean. Write the first paragraph. Call that friend. Give yourself one uninterrupted hour to do the thing that makes you forget the clock. Those moments are not selfish. They are nourishing. And the more nourished you become, the more you have to offer the people around you. A life filled only with obligations may look successful from the outside. But a life that includes what makes you come alive feels successful from the inside. Don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait for the perfect time. Make room for what brings you back to yourself. Again. And again. Because the life you are looking for may already be waiting inside the things you love most.
