The fear of success is real, and it can hold you back from achieving great things in your life.
This fear is not just about what would happen if we fail and fall flat on our faces. It's also about what happens if we succeed: will we be able to handle the new level of responsibility? Will people judge us for doing so well? Will we be able to maintain our happiness amid all the new pressures? The fear of success prevents us from pursuing our goals and pushing outside our comfort zone, like the fear of failure. It is a crippling ailment that is challenging to identify and even more challenging to accept. It is frightening to be completely honest with ourselves and acknowledge that we are holding ourselves back from success because of a hidden fear. The fear of success is truly an overriding state brought on by several underlying causes, all of which combine to produce the fear of success. This is because we are more terrified of the consequences of achievement than success itself. The fear of success can be traced back to childhood when you were told not to brag about your accomplishments or dreams for fear of being ridiculed by your peers or parents. You may have been ridiculed for being too proud or having too much confidence in yourself or your abilities. As a result, you learned early on not only how to suppress your feelings but also how to be ashamed of them.
