The herd mentality is a strong desire to feel safe and maintain the status quo. People with a herd mentality tend to stick with the majority. They do not want conflict or to take risks. They prefer stability over personal growth. This type of person wants to be comfortable in their current situation, whatever that may be.
They will avoid situations where they might be made to feel uncomfortable or challenged by others. They also avoid taking any action that could have negative consequences for them. They also tend to be very conformist and follow along with whatever others are doing to fit in and avoid being singled out as outsiders. This type of behaviour is so common that it has its name: "Groupthink." Groupthink occurs when people are afraid to speak up about an issue for fear that others will disagree. In this way, groupthink can lead to stagnation and complacency within an organization or entire society.
