The biggest mistake we make is expecting honesty from others. We all know that people aren't always honest with themselves, so how can we expect them to be honest with us?
Honesty is fundamental to building healthy relationships and keeping them strong—but only if it's genuine and consistent. It's easy to see when someone doesn't care about you enough, to be honest about how they feel about you or something you've done—but it's also easy to see when someone doesn't care about themselves enough, to be honest with themselves about what's going on inside them or how they feel about things. If you're not honest with yourself, your trust will always be shaky because there will always be gaps in what you say and do that could get caught up in your web of lies. And that will translate into how you show up or not show up for others.
