Shakti Gawain, Living in the Light author. How I love thee!
I was picking up this book again. I have two of them and asked the book for guidance. Then I randomly opened the book and this was the chapter: Chapter 13-talking about rescue and victim consciousness. I needed to read about this again as I still struggle with the rescuer mentality. I have always been busy trying to rescue others and wanting to save the world. "If I don't take care of others, they will leave me" was a mantra I adopted early in my life. It is a lifelong learning experience trying to get rid of this. As the book states too, I realize it is difficult to change old caregiving patterns. Thoughts surface, such as: "Do I really deserve to spend time on myself? What will happen to people that need my help?" I am transforming this situation and I have stronger boundaries today. I will not settle for less than I deserve. Love and light!
