I used to be a people pleaser. I would do anything to make others happy, even at my own expense. I didn't care about myself—I only cared about what other people thought of me.
But then, one day (25 years ago), I realized enough was enough. It was time for me to start taking care of myself instead of trying to please everyone else all the time. So I started reading everything I could about confidence and self-esteem, and I retyped the book The six pillars of self-esteem into my own words to fully understand how they applied to my situation. Then I did everything I could to learn how to become more assertive and build boundaries with others. If you have something you don't like about yourself, take some time this week and go to a bookstore or library where they have lots of different books on self-esteem—it'll allow you to learn more about yourself and maybe even change some things for the better! Self-awareness is key when it comes to happiness.
